I'm poor. And yet, growing my own food forest sounds like what I most want to be doing, if not one of the best investments I could be making in myself and the planet. The scheme I'm considering is this: spend my savings on some undeveloped land and getting plants in the ground on camping trips. Then, down the line, if its ten or twenty years, I put down a trailor or tiny home or whatever, but by then at least I could have some decent-sized bushes or even trees producing, along with enough staples to feed at least myself and my partner. I've worried about hunger in the past and-- never again. We might be quasi-homeless living with relatives in the meantime, but worst-case scenario, I think I'd rather be homeless on my own land surrounded by raspberries, garlic, and potatoes than in a shelter among scary strangers.
