How to garden near leach field?
Hi All,
The new place that I moved into has a leach field that is higher than the surrounding area. The septic tank has a pump that runs every once in a while into that area. I have never seen anything like it before. But, I have been deprived of a garden for a couple years now and need to fix that.
Can I plant anything on top of the leach field at all that can produce a consumable good?
I am already assuming "no" and I am already planning on using a set of container beds (wicking beds or drip irrigated containers) rather than put anything in the soil around that area. Even the sections around it seem like lost space. If I could maybe grow hops or a grain of some sort that wouldn't sit on the soil would that be safe?
On lunch at work but I could post pictures later if that helps make sense of the situation. My back up plan is to just seed a ton of wildflowers so it isn't an empty hump.
Thanks for any advice!
