In our home’s basement we have a sump pump that I’m assuming collects water from a drain tile system around the house, but what’s odd is that it empties itself into the sewer line existing the house that goes out to our septic tank. Is it odd that a ground water collection pump is dispensing into the sanitation system? This got me thinking, if this pump station already drains into the sewer, could I replace the sump pump with a lift station pump and use this system for a new bathroom I would like to build in the basement? The bathroom I would install would naturally sit next to the pump location, so I would cut out a small portion of the concrete and pipe the drains for the bathroom into this new lift station.
