That Avo Guy's last story

Howzit. If I’ve tagged you below, it’s because you and I had an interaction earlier this year that meant something to me, as a result of you reading one of my stories. I’ve decided to stop telling stories, but I want to tell you why, and to share the final chapter with you. If you just want to read the story, but you don’t want all the bullshit that comes before the recipe, scroll down. I’ve made the title fat bold, you can’t miss it. I’m posting the final story here rather than submitting it for publication because this is where it started, so it seems right to me that this is where it ends. But before I hit you with the final story, I just want to be real with you for a second, OK? I have this thing called CPTSD. It’s basically like PTSD on steroids. It’s the fun kind that isn’t the result of a single traumatic event, but rather of sustained trauma that rolls on until it becomes normal. It’s kind of like how you tune out the sound of the freeway you live too close to, only with t...

Ghosted by a Plumber before finishing. Already thousands of dollars into the project.

I hired a plumber and general contractor for a bathroom addition onto the house. While I’ve had some issues getting the plumber to show up on time in the past, I remained pretty patient since the general contractor he worked with was doing really good work for the price. Now that all the concrete/drywall/trim/tiling is done, and all that remains is installation on a shower and tub the plumber won’t get back into contact with me. What’s worse is the vanity he installed has a clear leak. A water heater valve drain he added is directly between the bathroom septic and septic tank outside, so anytime someone were to use the toilet in this new bathroom the entire space smells like waste for hours. He also damaged drywall, trim, and flooring during his other installs. What sort of legal recourse do I have to get my money back? Some of it was paid via Venmo, am I clear legally to dispute it if he did such a poor job? Submitted August 22, 2022 at 07:17AM by stewrad https://ift.tt/9ZLcwoI...

NAKED AND NAMELESS I WAS BORN INTO THIS DREAM

Chapter 30 IN THE TWO YEARS since Abby Jo treated her oldest son to a double scoop cone of Cherry Jubilee at Baskin Robbins—and in the almost two and a half years since the twins were born—Johnny had grown taller than his mother. His shoulders were broadening. There was a width and squareness to his jaw which had never been there before and which caused Abby Jo to turn her head back again and again when she looked up at him. And while she had been much better than she had been before the day that she wept to her son, the periodic disappearances from the house and family to consume her chemicals and see her men left Johnny in charge. Though Seph was still there every evening and night, Johnny dressed his younger brother and sisters and cooked them breakfast and put them on the school bus or took the twins to one of his classmate’s mother’s trailers on Gusdorf so she could take care of them while he was at school and while his mother was away. Often, his nights were sleepless. He stay...

Can an Operation go too well? (Spoilers for Last Things Last)

I recently ran a group of two through Last Things Last, and they got through it relatively unscathed. Neither had ever played before, but their characters were both naturally suspicious and had high relevant skills. They never opened the septic tank, and never really trusted Marlene's words, as they read Baughman's letter before finding the tank. They devised a clever plan in which they uncovered the main drainage pipe leading to the tank, and used that to deliver the gasoline, lighting the trail of gas going down the pipe to ignite it. I thought that was reasonable, so I allowed them to do it. They took SAN damage as described in the scenario for killing Marlene while not trusting her, and that was that. I know LTL has fewer moving parts than most scenarios, and I don't regret my ruling, but I have a question for other Handlers: if and when your Agents' planning and rolls bypass a good chunk of a scenario's intended challenge, do you let the horror of the invest...

Humidifier drainage

Recently purchased a house and the basement is very humid and getting a bit stinky. Our house is on septic, but I was hoping to have a place to drain so I don't have to empty the tank constantly. There's a disconnected pipe - not sure what it was for. I've attached a link below. Could this be used for drainage? https://imgur.com/a/jyye3Ih Submitted August 21, 2022 at 09:55PM by pilllow_pants https://ift.tt/ascnMKQ

At my wits end trying to get these motherfuckers to bury their cable

This post isnt supposed to be productive, its a vent. I had internet hooked up july 2nd. I have spent hours on the phone about this and finally gave up. Today frontier finally decided to come bury the cable. They sent two french people, 10 teeth, and no understanding of english. No alert they were here. Thought someone was breaking into the house, but no, just some french idiot repeatedly hitting the septic tank with a shovel, not stopping to wonder why it sounds like hes hitting a huge rock and not dirt Spent probably 10 minutes trying to communicate "You're digging in the wrong place, that is a concrete tank", but that was hopeless. Just spent 20 minutes trying to convey "get the fuck off of my property" through only hand signals. It started with me saying "Hey", which got no response even though I was standing right there. After a few more attempts, while standing maybe 5 feet away and watching this apparent zombie clang a shovel into a concrete...

Submitted August 20, 2022 at 03:42PM by Disaster_Voyeurism https://ift.tt/2sqKw4R

Convert sump pump into lift station?

In our home’s basement we have a sump pump that I’m assuming collects water from a drain tile system around the house, but what’s odd is that it empties itself into the sewer line existing the house that goes out to our septic tank. Is it odd that a ground water collection pump is dispensing into the sanitation system? This got me thinking, if this pump station already drains into the sewer, could I replace the sump pump with a lift station pump and use this system for a new bathroom I would like to build in the basement? The bathroom I would install would naturally sit next to the pump location, so I would cut out a small portion of the concrete and pipe the drains for the bathroom into this new lift station. Water From The Well

I find myself waking up in the middle of the night thirsty sometimes. Get up, get something to drink, and back to bed. Takes me back to life with Gram and Gramp: They had a well. It had been dug by hand many years before. Walled with native stone, also by hand. For much of its use it and the well box built over it had stood alone. But when Gramp built Gram her new kitchen, he extended the roofed front porch and raised the height of the well box so that water could now be drawn from it by pulley and bucket without having to venture out into the weather. My brothers and I later helped Gramp install the first indoor plumbing Gram had ever had. We dug the trenches for the pipes - laid them deep enough so that they wouldn’t freeze up in the winter. And Gramp installed an electric water pump to draw water from the well on demand. Built her a nice indoor bathroom where the small side porch had been, as well. He made sure it had a nice window, though. She had always enjoyed the pleasant ...

Some things I’ve learned during my recent trip

“ll” (double L) is pronounced “tl”. So Hella is pronounced Hetla, jökull is pronounced jökutl and so forth. Obligatory exception: Snæfellsnes is pronounced with a double L (and the æ as the y in sky resulting in “snyfellsnes”). fjall and fell both mean “mountain” but not in the same way. Apparently a fell is smaller than a fjall, but this is not entirely clear. People in Myvatn have strong feelings though if Hver is a fjall or a fell (any insights welcome). Things that come in triples I: the triples of sheep are often mother with two kids, as most sheep bear twins. Also, Icelandic sheep (especially ewes) can have horns, so having a horned sheep breastfeed is nothing to write home about. Things that come in triples II: next to most houses in the countryside there are three short pipes with a u-bend on the upper part. They are used for ventilation of the septic tank. Driving at speed over longer one-lane bridges can give you an impression on what the current porpoising discussion i...

UK Property Law questions

Please could a UK Property Lawyer/Solicitor advise on what I need to ask for. We’ve got a septic tank in a property that we are buying that is jointly used and maintained by 2 neighbours as per their own conveyance. The seller whom we are buying from has lost the conveyance that proves we have any right to use the septic tank, even though it’s on our land. Our solicitor says they aren’t experts in this area but at present it shows that we would have no right to use this septic tank, it’s plumbing, and therefore when it comes to replacing it (which is required immediately due to non-compliance) we wouldn’t be allowed to touch it. Our solicitors advise we need to find another solicitors who is knowledgeable in this area and can create a “deed of grant” to allow us to use it - but I cannot find any solicitors on Google in the UK that provide these services. Is my solicitor correct, is it a “deed of grant” or does it go by another name or do I need something else? Location: south east...

Can I force my landlord to fix our yard?

My girlfriend and I recently moved to Florida. We’re renting out a 2 bedroom house and we have an emotional support dog. For a while we’ve been noticing some trash in the backyard but nothing too crazy until recently. The more it rains, the more stuff gets unearthed, including broken glass, electrical wires, and lots of other stuff that is potentially dangerous for our dog to step on. We think our yard is almost entirely fill soil from when a septic tank was covered. Our lease requires us to maintain the yard, but there’s no way it involves picking up piles and piles of trash right? We’ve been texting our landlord asking him to come up with a game plan and he has only said “Ok I’ll get around to it.” Are there any laws about something like this??? Why is peeing in the shower considered grey water, but peeing in a urinal is black water?

So I'm expanding my shed at the bottom of my yard my 50 tank is almost at the top of my god but only a couple of metres will overlook my house, either way it is uphill from my shed. Now I have both the septic system and a grey water system at my property, and as we all know everyone loves to be in the shower and today it goes straight to my grey water which is realistically fine as far as anyone is concerned. Now I looked into installing urinal in my shed so I have somewhere to pee when I was working in my shed, however I sent me told this would require a pump so that the pee can get back up to my septic tank. So this raises the question why is it that when I pee in the shower is considered grey water, but when I pee in an actual urinal it's considered Black water and can't just be put out in my lawn? Are kitchen sinks, bathroom floor drains, and toilets all supposed to go into a septic tank and/or be connected with a single main pipe?

Long story short, I’m not very good with plumbing terms, but our entire bathroom is flooded with wastewater with human waste and everything. Apparently, all 3 things mentioned above are somewhat connected since pouring water on one of the affects the others. Ted talk part. This problem began almost a month ago, water from the floor drain started rising and eventually to the point that flushing the toilet frequently floods the floor drain and carries human waste with it. I complained to the subdivision office and they said that our septic tank didn’t have any sanitary line or plumbing outlet (not really sure, but the pipe that carries excess water from the tank to a sewer or something). I started losing my confidence with the contractors since we had a different problem before. It took then 2 weeks to take action and install the pipe, though they haven’t returned yet to fix the curb they had to dismantle. Now that seemed to have solved the problem a bit and the water goes down slowly ...

Septic tank won’t pump out

2014 Glastron GS289. The septic tank is about 80% full. I went over to the fuel dock in our marina to pump it out today but they couldn’t get anything to come out. They added fresh water into the pump out line to see if would move things or prime it but still nothing would come out. I tried later in the day at another marina after running the boat to see if the boat’s movement would free something up but still nothing would come out. The boat has an electric toilet, and the seat was up during the attempt to pump out the tank. I can’t tell if any valves in the toilet are open or closed. Does anyone have any ideas as to what it could be? My next attempt will be a plumbing snake in the pump out line to see if something is blocking it. So Long, Airbnb (PART TWO)

Part One for those who want to catch up on this saga. The Gurgle Out of desperation, we successfully book and secure a new, and very expensive Airbnb that is well out of our price range. The hosts live in the city, but they think they can get into town and have the place ready for us by 4pm. What a relief. We're still at the OG Airbnb, however, we decide we need to pack up the car ASAP. We're feeling increasingly nervous that the erratic host was still lurking on the property somewhere. It's 10am, it's 90 something degrees, we haven't showered in 5 days, and now we have to figure out how kill 6 hours. The hours tick by, at 4pm on the dot we roll into another bumpy and long driveway, trailer in tow, and see that the hosts are still there cleaning. I can't blame them, it was a same day booking so I'm willing to give them some grace. After another half-hour of sitting in the car, I'm really starting to lose it. They finally leave, thank god. They seem ...

So Long, Airbnb

After experiencing a long and expensive summer marred by poor Airbnb hosts, I’ve been finding it deeply cathartic reading through others experiences from hell so I thought I’d share ours here too. TL;DR , I will never book an Airbnb ever again. The complete lack of vetting of hosts at the expense of guests has gotten out of hand. Both Airbnb and many of these newer hosts just look at us with dollar signs in their eyes, completely lacking any empathy or regard for people's lives. When I discovered that you cannot take Airbnb to small claims court in the US, I decided that the best I can do is share my horror stories and feel some kind of gratification in laughing over it. THE MOVE My partner and I decided to make a permanent move to the East Coast this summer, but our new apt lease wouldn't start till August. We ended up having a 2 month gap between June and July from the the end of our old lease till the start of the new one. We thought, hey—we both work remotely, why don’t ...

Recent weddings, what did you pay for a luxury portable bathroom?

I just got a quote for almost $3000 for a 2 stall bathroom with a water tank included(we have septic and a well). We are flexible with our budget but are trying to keep it low. We are saving a lot by skipping a ceremony and having my fiance's aunt let us use her huge yard. But we literally are spending the same amount for our food budget as this quote. I'm going to reach out to more places as it's just the first we got but does this price seem crazy high? I've searched reddit and see most people saying around $1500 which I would be fine with but idk spending the same amount on the bathroom as we do for catering with servers included seems kind of insane to me. Financially trapped with family and out of ideas...

Hello everyone. I need advice for my complicated situation. I doubt that there's anything I can do about this but I need a good vent and thought of strangers. So I'm 25m and for the past 5 years of my life I've been primarily in charge and responsible for my family's finances because my family has a bad history of letting things like electricity and rent go over due. It was fine at first. Everyone was paying on time and then problems came up. They'd overspend and I'd have to make up the difference. I tried to bring up with my mom and brother but the toxic relationship everyone has for each other is ridiculous so that didn't really change. Year later my brother up and left us when we were kicked out of our trailer because of a faulty septic tank that the landlord didn't want to fix and left us his dog to take care of. Moved into a small 2bdr apartment with my mom and my girlfriend at the time. My mom lost her job soon after and my girlfriend at the time ...

Wonderful house... not so wonderful inspection: Rant

Husband and I decided it was finally time to ditch the apartment lifestyle we've been living for the last 15 years and to buy a house. Neither of us have owned a house before. We're both in our early 30's and have been moving around the States these last 10 years while I pursue my higher education. Now we're in an area that we're planning on being in for a while. After a year here we both really like the city we're in. There are many reasons why home ownership sounds like a better idea than apartment renting. In apartments, there are always some small upgrades we would like to do, but are unable to. Like, maybe opening a section of wall up to make a living space larger, for example. Or run wiring through walls, etc. There's also the noise issue from neighbors. We've grown to hate hearing our neighbors through the walls we share. One of our neighbors has 6 kids. They constantly are screaming/crying, stomping, banging on the walls. With this, the parents...
